1) HYDRATION - Internal and external needs. High temps mostly means sweating. If you aren't sweating, please check in with your medical professional. Sweating is the body's way to cool down and is a very good thing. Make sure you view sweating as a good way for your body to effectively cool down.
With sweating, your body is also releasing electrolytes which means we need to add those minerals back. Either make your own mix of celtic/himalayan salt, baking soda, orange juice and coconut water or take in a ready post workout drink.
Also eat more water-dense foods like watermelon or strawberries! Those will release water internally slowly with fiber.
Now lets take external hydration. The skin will dry out quicker and dead skin will accumulation faster in the hotter weather.
Switch to a lighter lotion that has aloe vera which also aids in deeper moisture. Use an exfoliator like body scrub or even a fruit peel that will slough off those dead skin cells so that your moisturizer can access your deeper skin levels.
2) COOL DOWN - Easier said than done, right? Use a large brim hat or umbrella when outside in the sun. Find shade whenever you can and if you can't be shaded?
Soak a bandana or neck scarf in cold water...then put around your neck or head. I found this to be a life saver while golfing or camping. I have a stretchy neck gaitor that I soak in ice cold water and keep on my neck.
Use mint! Peppermint lotion or Eucalyptus based products will "cool" the skin creating a cooling effect on the skin (and mind). Another great idea is to use our Peppermint/Eucalyptus Shower Infuser for summer allergy relief and cooling relief in the shower!
Mint/Eucalyptus Shower Infusers - Learn More
We created a Calming Toner Mist for just this. Spray on during and after your activity to cleanse and cool down your face/neck.

3) PLAN ACTIVITIES FOR EARLY MORNING OR EVENING - Acknowledge that outdoor activities need to be re-evaluated and re-scheduled! It's dangerous for everyone to be outside in full sun so change up your routine to times of the day when the sun is not full force.
4) USE COLD WATER - Best thing right now is to use a cool shower or bath to start and end your day. End of the day your internal body is overheated and a cool bath/soak will do wonders for sleep.
5) GIVE YOURSELF EXTRA CARE - Re-schedule events, take an evening cool shower or soak, use lighter aloe based skin products and take extra electrolytes!

We want to help you age flawlessly and promote smooth, glowing skin. Our serum is boosted with Bakuchiol and niacinamide for added skin support. PLUS retinol is one of the most extensively researched and proven skincare ingredient on the market.
Retinol has exfoliation properties, which besides keeping pores clean, it helps to slough away dead skin which dulls the skin's appearance. With exfoliation, the skin can gain a fresher, more youthful looking, glowing complexion.
Many Retinol products are very strong, leaving skin irritated quickly without time to reap the benefits. Our serum contains vegetable glycerin, which helps to calm the skin while boosting moisture levels. The specific blend of ingredients makes our serum powerful yet gentle enough for even those with sensitive skin.
While Retinol is the star of our new serum, we add a small range of other ingredients that work together to boost the retinol's effects. They work together like a multiple-faceted support team!
Product highlights:
Retinol and bakuchiol combine to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and help skin appear clear, balanced, and bright.
Niacinamide helps skin tone appear even, and bright in addition to boosting the natural effects of retinol.
Vegetable glycerin soothes skin while giving this serum a moisturizing, humectant boost.

I found out that the LQPV Girls' Golf Team that includes my hometown of Madison, MN needs to raise money to purchase indoor practice equipment! If you're from the Midwest, you know how difficult it is to get appropriate practice time for Spring Sports when it's still snowing and the ground is too wet (or under snow drifts) to practice. Indoor equipment allows kids to simulate shots and get muscles warmed/stronger for outdoor play.
My passion for golf and female sports started when I was 4 yrs old and I started to play golf. I started focusing on golf at age 8 but in Madison through summer rec and school sports I also played basketball, softball, tennis and volleyball. With high school golf, I spent many hours in the gym practicing hitting balls into the practice net and exercising - waiting for the course to be dry enough to play.
Even when I started at the U of Minnesota Morris playing golf, we had many practices indoors both in the Spring and Fall waiting for outdoor course play.
Nothing else teaches young girls and ladies more about physical and mental health than golf and I'm so proud to be able to help these girls get more practice time!
With Body Systems, we have provided products to the 3M OPEN, Everesting 29029, the Women's Final Four and much more. Let's promote female athletes!
So here's what we at Body Systems are doing. We are selling lip balms to raise money that we will hand over to the Girls' Golf Team of LQPV to help with any/all equipment needs they have.
You can purchase 12 Lip Balms for $50 which $26 of that will go to the golf team.
You can purchase 12 Lip Balms for $60 which $36 of that will go to the golf team.
You can purchase NO Lip Balms for $25 and all $25 will go the golf team)
You can purchase NO Lip Balms for $10 and all $10 will go to the golf team)

]]>We know that Beta-Carotene is a popular ingredient in skin care, and this is largely because of its excellent rejuvenating properties and helpful antioxidant abilities. It’s often used in products for maturing skin, and we like to use it for a more refreshed, even facial skin including under the eyes.
The same component that gives carrots their rich orange color can do wonders for your skin. Beta carotene a precursor to vitamin A, helps to make your skin look younger, healthier, and more radiant. That’s why it’s one of the super ingredients we include in our Carrot Avocado Facial Balm.
What is it?
Beta carotene is a member of the deeply pigmented carotenoid family. Beta carotene is responsible for that beautiful orange and yellow color found in fruits and vegetables like carrots, sweet potatoes, cantaloupe, winter squash, pumpkins, orange bell peppers, and apricots.
Skin Deep
With applying our Carrot Balm, the beta-carotene penetrates into your skin and boosts retinyl esters or the storage form of retinol. Retinol has been shown to help stimulate the production of new skin cells and help fade dark spots on your skin.
Speaking of dark spots
Melasma is a common condition that causes skin discoloration, usually on the face, particularly on the areas that get a lot of sun such as the along your nose, forehead, chin, and cheeks. Topically applied beta-carotene can help reduce or sufficiently eliminate the discoloration.

]]>Nothing derails a workout like sore muscles, a sprain or plain exhaustion. Overuse of anything leads to failure, not progress. So when you've overdone it, normally you need to rest. But there's a huge difference between rest and coming to a complete stop. And "complete stop" usually means an extended time away from training/exercise and you quickly find yourself losing any progress you had made.
So what do you do? Instead of having to stop for weeks due to severe injury, take care to prep and recovery correctly so you can get back to your workout/training and not lose valuable progression.
Take the time before your workout to think about what your body and skin needs to be effective and safe. Are you exercising outside? Are you in a chlorinated pool? Is the air cold and dry?
We're going to assume you have the necessary equipment and proper layers so let's focus on the "background" things to remember to protect your skin and prevent any issues after training.
We are also going to discuss winter workouts and how they need special attention to the skin and how winter can injury muscles easier.
Winter air is typically drier and much colder which means it wants to pull moisture from your skin and also freeze delicate facial skin.
Before heading outside, make sure to apply a thicker barrier balm to exposed skin. A barrier balm does just what you think it does. It "protects" the skin from the extreme cold temperatures and wind chill. Think specific vitamin-infused balm for the face that contains natural ingredients for absorption pre and post outside time. Let our Carrot Avocado Balm which is full of Beta Carotene that soaks in while you work out PLUS protects your delicate skin without Petroleum or anything you don't want! (Hint: apply to the tops of your hands and they will be so soft and moisturized post workout!)
Of course you can't go out without protecting your lips. The skin of the lips is actually very thin and most people apply any-ol-balm to their lips and wonder why they are more chapped after applying? Most mass produced lip balms contain petroleum and other ingredients that "sit" on the top of the skin instead of truly absorbing and protecting the skin. Our favorite Mint Tea Tree Lip Balm is Petroleum free, camphor free, gluten free and soy free. Now lets talk about what it does have! Natural Beeswax to protect, Tea Tree to help already damaged/dry lips and a little sweet so it's not too overpowering.
Post workout there's 2 main things to think about: 1) Replenish the body with lost fluids/eat protein to promote muscle building 2) Recovery of muscles to ease any soreness
During exercise, muscles break down and is the most common workout complaint. Note that actual injury like sprains, or tendon injury is serious and needs medical attention. Let's discuss muscle "soreness" here.
Don't discount foam roller time before and after to release muscle tension. But a largely ignored way to relieve muscles is with a Mineral Soak at the end of the day before muscle soreness sets in.
Our 2-Step Recovery plan is to use our Ginger + Mustard Recovery Soak to impart Magnesium and release toxin buildup in the muscles before that soreness even starts. So many people (especially as we age) forget to release those toxins first with a roller, then with a muscle soak that's specific to your muscle needs. We created our Ginger Recovery Soak just for this purpose of release and replenish. Taking that time at the end of the day is perfect time to set you up for the next day AND to make sure that muscles have what they need to do their job! You want to release toxins ( acid buildup) and then you want the muscles to absorb the minerals (magnesium) that will help to reduce soreness. You are helping the muscles along in recovering faster and better!
Our Ginger Soak was originally created for a large Las Vegas spa for those that had a little "too" much fun in Vegas. That Soak would be featured in the Wall Street Journal and has continued to be the go-to Recovery Soak for athletes all over the world!
Now what about "really sore" muscles? Or maybe a previous injury that needs a little extra attention? Our Post Workout Balm is it! Our Post Workout Balm, just like our Carrot Balm and Lip balms do NOT contain any petroleum but only natural ingredients to provide heat and cold to sore spots. Applying our Post Workout Balm after your Recovery Soak or anytime will help circulation to that area to help the body focus on that spot and feel better.
Following these Pre and Post workout Steps will have you better equipped to focus on your training instead of thinking about sore skin or having sore muscles that derail your workouts.
Taking a little time to understand what your skin and body needs before and after workouts will have you ready for your next workout stronger than before.

Happy New Year everyone. Time to bust out that new bullet journal or planner today. I'm an "overall" big goal setter but I'm not into making resolutions. Here's why.
I've spent 20 yrs as a Fitness Instructor. Every Jan for about 3 weeks, our gyms and pools have been packed with people trying to loose 10 yrs of fat in a week and overdoing it. Getting hurt, and jumping into big programs that will burn them out in 2 wks.
Here's my thoughts on this: If you didn't start at least in Nov or Dec with some sort of extra exercise, please don't just jump into an advanced plan today or tomorrow. Take some time today to walk and think about what you want to start implementing in your daily life that will lower stress, build muscle and get your heart beating.
Now is the time to look at your current lifestyle. What small steps can you do for a healthier you? One thing is to look at your body products and skin products you're using everyday. Look at labels. Those ingredients are entering your body through your skin so you want healthy, beneficial ingredients instead of toxins, chemicals and any ingredients that are considered allergens. This is a simple switch up to the better. The next time you go shopping, pick healthier options. Switch out your Body Wash, lotion, facial products and STOP with the fragrances sprayed in your home's air.
Next how can you implement those workouts? And I mean how can you effectively add in a balanced plan that you will be able to enjoy and add to your schedule long term? A good start is 2 cardio, 2 strength and 2 stretch sessions per week. This is overly simplified but it's a great start. Don't overdue it. Don't bite off more than you know you can chew.
Now isn't the time to promise yourself a 2-hr long workout at the new gym each morning at 6am when you KNOW you have a problem waking up in the mornings. It may work for a week but it's not sustainable. And sustainable is the key. I myself... I can't wake up in the morning. I never have. My workouts are at 4 or 5pm. That's the time of the day that I know works for me. If I create a 6am workout plan...I'll stop within days and then I'll feel like a failure and it just causes stress. Which raises cortisol. Which stops any good plan in its tracks.
So today when you're opening that brand new planner... start to look at 2 areas that you can start this week. 1) Switch out your unhealthy skin products for healthier options like Body Systems' Cleansing Bars, Mineral Soaks, Lip Balm and Post Workout Balm! 2) Determine what exercise program you want to start and when will work for you.
Have questions about workouts? Wonder what kind of schedule you should be doing? ASK ME! Comment on this or let's go over to the Body Systems' Facebook Group and start the discussion!
Let's make 2023 a Healthier Year with full body wellness instead of short-term resolutions!

]]>\We were so happy to help with the Soap Suds Row Excavation Dig at Old Fort Meade last week. This once-in-lifetime experience was conducted to uncover more information about the hired laundresses that were responsible for cleaning/mending soldiers’ uniforms.
We helped dig and sift through soil above a house location and an area that is believed to be the privy and cooking area for the soap. Archaeologists and area historians are hoping to continue to uncover more information on these women that were here beginning in 1878.
Just some of the artifacts found included shoes, bones, pottery, bottles, nails, glass, and so much more that will hopefully be the beginning of uncovering much needed information on who these women and children were that were living here in the late 19th century.

You wouldn’t head out on a jog without proper shoes, right? Or think about using an ill fitting swimsuit to do laps. Prepping the skin for any adventure means that you’re ready and prepared. Skin needs help to get going and be ready. We like to say, “layers for your Winter skin” since it’s so much easier to be prepared than to fix sore, cracked skin after the damage is done.
At Body Systems we’re athletes making body and skin products that help everyone with active lifestyles be more prepared and ready to take on any challenge. We’ve talked about the 4 main categories we focus on: Prep, Compete, Recover and Pamper. We want to talk a little more about Prepping the Skin especially right now with more severe cold and dry weather.
Many of us wake up early and get that workout done. So what are your go-to things to do before your workout? What if we told you to take a moment to consider your skin and mental “game” just after those essentials like athletic gear and fresh coffee.
Winter is not only cold but darker in the mornings so in steps our shower infusers. A burst of essential oils release in the shower steam for a bolt of aromatherapy that, depending on the blend can help ease congestion or wake you up. Don’t fret, we have a great lavender blend for evenings when you need a restful sleep.
Now to really prep the skin for the outdoors. Post shower, you want to create a moisturized barrier that both locks in moisture and creates a protective layer from that harsh air. Introducing our vegan Body Butter that’s paraben free and gluten free. It’s a healthy and thick, but not greasy butter perfect when skin needs protection and extra deep moisture.
Now don’t forget your lips and face. Our lips are thinner and more susceptible to drying out due to moisture from breathing. Keep extra lip balms in workout gear so you can apply multiple times if needed throughout your workout. Even pool workouts need a good barrier layers on our skin to protect from the chlorine. Try our wonderful line of natural lip balms to help shield lips in dry weather without drying chemicals like alcohols or oil-based petroleum, your skin will be better prepared for any challenge with healthier lips. In 3 delicious flavors, you’ll find one or three you love to keep handy.
Please don’t forget your face in the winter. Depending on your skin’s needs, you’ll need a great non-stripping cleanser and then thicker balm to protect the skin in super dry, cold air. We suggest an oil cleanser that cleanses while nourishing and then a face specific balm to create a healthy shield.
We’ve created a Solid Oil Cleansing Stick that contains powerful light oils including Grape Seed Oil, Olive Oil, Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil, Rose hip Seed Oil, and Borage Oil so skin is fed but not weighted down. Can be left on the skin during the workout and washed off after but either way, your facial skin will not be stripped of it’s natural oils when heading out the door.
For long outdoor workouts, we recommend applying a thick facial balm to make sure the skin is protected. We made a thick Carrot & Avocado Balm for just that purpose. The rich beta carotene from carrots and the vitamin-packed avocado oil can be used on the face but also anywhere on the body that needs some extra care. I love to apply to the tops of my hands and also my heels…
That’s a wrap on what layers your winter skin needs to prep for those cold, dry winter workouts. Now you’re ready to workout without worrying about your skin becoming damaged in the process of getting healthy.
What is your main product you make sure to have in your pre-workout gear bag?

]]>Thank you for helping us celebrate our 18th year in Business! Now for the goods... we're offering 18% off our ENTIRE STORE this weekend starting right now! Use code: 18for18 at checkout but hurry it's only good now through Sunday!
We're featuring our fabulous VEGAN Body Lotion today on DAY 4 of Birthday Week.
]]>Earlier this week you saw our first web site and homepage from 2002. Our company name has always been Body Systems but those first few months we had "Elements Natural" associated with the product line. By 2003 we converted everything to the Body Systems' name and I did find an original logo concept that incorporated too many words, and graphics! But it was 2003... we did go on to just use that "b" for product labels but just like everything it evolves constantly into what we use today.
What else did I find in my throwback folders? A brochure mock up with our product line and pricing on it. Oh my how technology has also changed too!
________________________________________________________________
________________________________________________________________
Looks like we had 2 options for lotion: Island and Unscented. I "think" the Island was a mango type of fragrance. It's so amazing how we grow, isn't it?
Today we have lotions on our Birthday Feature at less than 2002 pricing. Our current lotion is paraben free, and also vegan and in a bigger size tha 18 years ago. 8.5oz with 7 different scent options. Get it while it's on sale today!
]]>
Body Systems started in our little kitchen. And can you guess one of our most popular product lines?
]]>In those early years we had TOO MANY scent options. Oye, I think it was about 23 different fragrances we carried. In my many years (18+) that is one of the main things I would have changed. Too many options for all customers means you are carrying more labels, and more ingredients.
Also notice the "tropical" theme we had back in the day? Many of our spa customers wanted more and more island themed scents.
Digging through our files we also found an early press release talking about our Margarita Body Scrub.
--------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------
Our Body Scrubs have been popular for all of our years. We did change up the recipe about 12 years ago...keeping the same great ingredients but we created an emulsified version which incorporates the oils into the base. Have you tried one of our scrubs? Which one is your favorite? Today's your chance to get all of our great scrubs at Throwback Pricing! Hurry this won't be available tomorrow.
]]>We're throwing it back to 2002 and giving some insight into why, and how we started our company. Join us with throwback pictures, background info and even some throwback product pricing.
]]>So how are we celebrating this week? We'll be posting throwback photos each day and have a "THROWBACK PRODUCT PRICE". There may be even some fun tips, games and product info thrown in for fun.
In 2002 I was busy researching natural ingredients, testing out recipes, and teaching up to 11 fitness classes per week. Looking through my "archives" (boxes of files) I found that our area was "finding" yoga and I was featured in our local paper about teaching Athletic Yoga Classes.
About this time, my allergies were getting out of control. I found that one of my triggers was fragrance and that included just about every commercial body product made. I wanted to find more natural body products but couldn't find anything that wasn't full of perfume or just too strong.
As I researched healthier skin ingredients I realized how many products could be made without damaging chemicals. Soon friends and family were interested in using natural body products so the 1st Web Site was born to get the word out.
Notice that the company name is Body Systems but I was experimenting with the products line name. I think my official yoga classes were called Body Systems and I wanted a different name for the body products. Elements Natural Products was a short lived "company" name...must have been a division of Body Systems! Here it is. The first homepage of our company. And what about that first product? Here's a shot of the peppermint lip balm 2002!
It's been such a journey going through old boxes, files and pictures. It's just amazing how far a company can "go" except the basics are still there. Using fresh, natural ingredients to create healthy body products.
Check back tomorrow as we dive back into the archives and pick a new product feature!

Join us in the birthday celebration as we turn 18!

]]>DURING WORKOUT
POST WORKOUT
PROTECTING THE SKIN FOR NEXT TIME
We are always talking about self-care and how we can't be present for others if we aren't recharged ourselves. Today I just wanted to start the conversation about what it means to be "full" and being the person that recharges others.
Of course if you are needing to recharge yourself, then step back and do that. I ask you to come back after when you're ready to take recharging further.
The next step is being able to recharge others. Being the person in life that gives that boost to others. This is a gift but I think we can all work on this idea.
Some of you know, that my sweet Mom passed away last month. It's been terribly hard and some days are very hard. I'll tell you why. My Mom was my recharger. She was the one that was able to recharge me no matter if it was in times of happiness or sorrow, she was my charger.
Have you thought about that person in your life? The one you turn to when you have something really great to share or even the one you need to share with when you are facing a difficulty? Some how those people always seem to fill you up. You can't explain it but you know it. You feel it.
Last month when my Mom passed, she had received a sweet card from one of her friends. She talked about needing "her batteries recharged" and was missing my Mom. You see, during COVID the nursing home where my Mom was living was on lockdown. Actually still is. My Mom had not seen any friends or family for over 3 months. It was getting to her... Imagine not being able to leave your one room. Like most elderly, not having internet so you can quickly communicate with loved ones. Like my Mom, her friends were on lockdown...no one could visit each other. I think this is one of the worst things that has happened. Interaction with loved ones. We take it for granted to live in a house, with internet and streaming devices all around us. Those in nursing homes, and long term facilities are facing this COVID-19 alone. They are not "connected" via internet like most of us. They are lonely.
Her friend explained how much she missed visiting with her. And missed her so much. Her friend said that my Mom was her charger and that she would get low and then know she needed to visit to recharge.
I love that thought. I want everyone to be charged full but when you are full, think about how you can "recharge" those around you. I also think by lifting up others, we recharge our hearts. That's my thoughts today.
In loving memory of my "recharger", Mom Jackie.
Thank you so much for reading. I wanted to also let you know that my family and I are raising funds to buy Wheelchair Accessible Picnic Tables for my hometown of Madison, Minnesota. We have been able to order 2 Tables in memory of my Mom but we want to keep the love going.
Please donate or SHARE our fundraiser information with your family and friends. If a group would like to donate together let me know so we can give shoutouts on social media. Thank you, Teri

Pictured above is our organic avocado fruit powder used to make Coconut + Avocado Body Scrub this week. We couldn't help but snap a picture. Look at the beautiful color!
Tired about hearing about the Great Avocado? Well these little fruits are packed with nutrients and healthy monounsaturated fatty acids that benefit so many body systems that you won't stop hearing about them any time soon.
Here at Body Systems, we LOVE avocados. As an athlete and fitness professional, I have valued these power houses for a very long time. I was singing their nutritional super powers for years because of their fat, fiber, nutrients and versatility!
Today I want to shine a spotlight on the avocado with a few reasons you need to be eating them and using them on your skin. We'll later explain why we use Organic Avocado fruit and oil in some of our best selling products.
First of all avocados are very dense in nutrients. Which means you are receiving the most nutrients possible in a small serving. For example, you may need to eat several cups of a particular vegetable to get enough nutrients. Avocado is dense and a little goes a long way.
HEART HEALTH - Avocados are great for overall heart health and maintaining the cardiovascular system.
BLOOD SUGAR - High fat content helps to reduce blood sugar spikes when it's eaten with a meal.
POTASSIUM - More potassium than bananas so if you have leg cramps keeping you awake at night, try some avocado!
BRAIN HEALTH - Our brain needs fat to function and focus making this great to add to lunch for that afternoon boost.
MUSCLE RECOVERY - Avocados contain all essential amino acids which are the foundation of protein. What does this mean? Our muscles need amino acids post workout in order to repair and recover.
Avocados are very versatile and there are so many ways to enjoy their benefits. From topping toast, using as a dip, blend as a dressing, replace the oil in brownies, or add to smoothies. The options are endless and even for those that don't like the fruit, think about using the avocado oil for cooking or in baking.
Now our other favorite use of avocados is in body products. Here at Body Systems' we focus on healthy eating and using just as healthy ingredients in our skin care products. One of our favorite things is avocado and we use fruit powder and oil. There are great reasons we use avocado and just some of those are:
GLOWING SKIN - The skin absorbs anything you apply so using fresh, healthy ingredients are also going to be used internally from absorption. Our Coconut + Avocado Body Scrub has been a top seller for many years and you can see why!
HYDRATION - The natural oil in avocado is rich and loaded with Vitamin E, Vitamin C that penetrate deep into skin layers to really hydrate within the cells. These same vitamins help the skin protect from environmental free radicals. We add avocado oil to our Massage/Bath Oils, all of our Lotions and our best selling Carrot + Avocado Facial Balm. The facial skin is thin and usually more sensitive making the use of avocado oil perfect for calming the face.
SKIN APPEARANCE - Overall skin appearance can improve due to Lutein, Oleic Acid and Chlorophyll which all help with elasticity. Making it a superior oil for skin health.
MAGNESIUM - Did you know that avocados are also high in magnesium which helps relax muscles and handle stress. We use the avocado fruit in our Coconut + Avocado Mineral Soak for a true stress buster. Magnesium is also lost with physical activity so that's why it's so important to follow up a workout or day in the heat with electrolytes and a great mineral soak. So many people don't like baths but you can also use our Mineral Bath as a foot soak. You'll be amazed how your muscles become relaxed and feel so much relief post salty soak.
HAIR - One of the best and easiest hair conditioners is to mash up an avocado, add a little coconut oil and apply to wet hair. Allow the hair to soak in that biotin, Vitamin E and Vitamin B. I love to do this especially in the summer months when my hair becomes so dry from pool chlorine and the sun.
There it is folks. Just SOME of the many benefits of eating avocados and also using them in your body products.
How do you love to use avocados? Post below and don't forget to sign up for our newsletter for more of the good news!

Admit it we are different in our skin needs. Sometimes it’s more chaffed, dry, itchy and stinky and we need more. We want our gym skincare to be just as healthy as our meal plans and workout schedules. We’ve got you covered and no matter what your workout is or challenge of choice, read more for hot tips on keeping your skin in the game and healthy at the gym. Let’s focus on keeping your skin healthy pre and post workout!
Recognize that sweat is great to cool your body and release those toxins but it’s not so great on your skin. Bacteria in sweat naturally can aggrevate pre-existing conditions or make new blemishes appear. Make sure to wash up well before and after your workout. This will make sure that bacteria won’t have the chance to absorb and interact with your skin.
*Not just facial skin is prone to breakouts and irritations from sweat. Pay extra attention to areas like the chest, back and pits that all have sensitive skin and get extra sweaty.
Cleaning and prepping the skin is a vital step to make sure your skin is able to sweat freely during the workout. If pores are clogged or blocked, then sweat can’t release from the body and can cause a “backup” for the internal body. The body needs to release toxins and make sure that the lymph and circulatory systems are free to move about.
Use our Oil Cleansing Stick to gently remove make up and any of the day’s residue before hitting the gym or pool or running trails. We want pores clean and the skin able to “breathe” and be able to release sweat. I’m always amazed how many women show up at the gym or to the pool with a full face of makeup. Let your Pores Breathe Ladies!
Not emotional but moisturizing. Depending on your workout, you want to make sure that skin is protected from the elements or environment. Weather can be extreme and/or dry so make sure to apply balm to lips and any exposed skin. This will keep the weather from drying out your skin.
Pool Workout? If you leave the pool every time with dry, cracked skin you need to apply a layer of balm to those areas that bother you the most. Balm (like our Lavender and Tamanu Oil Balm) is a “greasy” thick product that can be applied without fully absorbing quickly into the skin. Just what you want here. We want a barrier so the dry skin isn’t drying further or trying to absorb pool chemicals. Take a pre-shower, and then apply your balm. Note that you can use our Oil Cleansing Stick at this point too. Just apply to those areas like knuckles, heels, elbows and face without rubbing in and rinsing off.
Showering also protects your skin from “soaking” in the pool water if your skin is already dry. And did you know that a pre-shower also protects your hair? Apply a moisturizing hair butter or conditioner and put on a swim cap…conditioning treatment while you swim.
That was a great workout! Head to the showers and don’t forget to take the time to properly care for skin post workout. If you’re coming out of the pool, spray hair and body with the Post Pool Spray to neutralize chlorine residue. Vitamin C naturally reacts with chlorine in a good way and deactivates it. We’re busy testing our spray and it’ll launch the Spring 2020. Want to be the first to be notified when it’s “live”? Sign up for our VIP news here and we’ll give you the heads up.
Now before heading into that shower, grab that jar of Facial Mud and massage that all over the face and neck. NOW jump into that shower like a boss, and using wet hands, massage the mud into the skin and get that grime and sweat off. Our great mud emulsifies (creates a slight foam/lotion) making it very easy to rinse. The thick mud gets it’s fabulous-ness from baking soda, coconut oil, and clay that work deep into the skin to be tough on grime and sweat but gentle on the skin’s natural oils.
NOTE That this is going to be different for everyone because everyone has a different workout and different skin care needs. But the essentials can do double and even triple duty and still give you everything you need to go from the office to your gym and back home again and not leave your skin crying out for help.
So you want to make sure the skin is clean before your sweat session. A good oil based cleanser will not leave the skin dry and more sensitive to the elements. Than after you want to stop the bacteria (chemicals and environments) from more damage by cleansing off sweat, grime and any chemicals.
I love to just use my Body Systems’ Shampoo Bar on hair and body because it’s easy and I’m fairly lazy after workouts. Our Shampoo Bar is a multi-tasker by safely cleansing the hair with oils and butters and with a great combination of essential oils you know that you’re getting an aromatherapy treatment and cleanser in one.
Now that we’re all clean, you may need a quick extra body moisturizer especially in the winter months. I love our Body Butter because it’s thick, non-greasy and not heavily scented.
If heading back to the office, don’t forget those pits with our Natural Deodorant that uses enzymes to neutralize the funk without using any ingredients that cause pores to be blocked. Blocking pores in the pits backs up the lymph system.
Push it a little hard? Remember to use our Post Workout Balm on any muscles that need some extra cooling/heating to help with circulation. Then you’ll be ready for your next challenge the next day!
Just a little extra attention pre and post workout, and your skin can be a part of your healthy workout routine and come out better than ever. Take along those essentials like our GO ESSENTIALS SET and keep in your bag, then you know where it’s at and no scrambling every time you’re heading out to your workout. And don’t worry about spills, our great line of products are in solid form (except our cool Pool Spray) so that you can focus on your workout and not if your towel and bra are ending up with shampoo all over them.
Now you know how to have HEALTHY PRE and POST WORKOUT SKIN! Just a few essentials can take you to and from workouts and won’t sideline you with dry, itchy and damaged skin.
